Fort De Soto rules

Every rule below is quoted or closely paraphrased from the authority that sets it, with the date we read it.

Park hours
The park is open seven days a week, 7 a.m. to sunset. source Read 5 October 2026
Dogs
Fort De Soto has the only dog park in the county where dogs are allowed on the beach, in a designated area. There are two fenced sections, for large and small dogs, with water stations near the beach entrance. source Read 5 October 2026
Sea turtle nesting season, 1 May to 31 October
Sea turtle nesting season runs from 1 May through 31 October in Pinellas County, which is the start date FWC gives for every county except Brevard through Broward. FWC asks beachgoers to fill in holes dug in the sand, knock down sandcastles, and take all beach toys, gear and furniture off the sand before sunset, because obstacles can stop a nesting female from reaching the dry sand and can trap hatchlings heading for the water. Lights facing the beach disorient both. FWC Read 5 October 2026

We could not find an official rule from Fort De Soto's own source for: alcohol. Rather than guess at a rule that carries a fine, we have left those out. Ask a lifeguard or check the official site.

Fort De Soto does not publish lifeguard coverage on its official pages, so we do not show any. Do not read that as either lifeguards or no lifeguards. Of the eight beaches here, only Clearwater Beach publishes its hours.

Fort De Soto water temperature by month

Averages computed from 83,277 observations recorded by NDBC Egmont Channel buoy, 12 miles offshore in the Gulf across 5 complete years, 2021 to 2025. The low and high columns are the coldest and warmest single readings in that month over the whole period, not a typical range for a day.

Station: Egmont Channel Entrance. A month is shown only where the pooled records cover at least 60 percent of it and come from two or more years, which is why a month can read as not enough data even though the station exists.

What time does Fort De Soto open and close?
The county states the park is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to sunset. It is a long drive out and back, so give yourself room before the gates close. source
Can I bring my dog to Fort De Soto beach?
Yes, in the designated area. The county describes this as the only dog park in Pinellas County where dogs are allowed on the beach, with two fenced sections for large and small dogs and water stations near the beach entrance. source
What are the tides at Fort De Soto?
The tide predictions above come from the NOAA station at Mullet Key, which NOAA names for Tampa Bay, so it reads the bay side of the park rather than the Gulf-facing beach. We say so rather than presenting it as a Gulf station. source
